OSBI reconstructs face of skull discovered near Quinton

McALESTER — Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Forensic Artist Harvey Pratt recently completed a facial reconstruction from human remains found in Pittsburg County in December.

The unidentified human remains, which included a skull, were found Dec. 13 near the Pittsburg County and Haskell County line. The human bones were found on a ranch just north of Quinton, off State Highway 71, said Pittsburg County Investigator Tommy Lyons.

Lyons processed the scene along with Angela Berg, an anthropologist for the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners Office. At the time, Lyons said Berg was able to determine that the body is male and had been there for approximately one to two years.

Pittsburg County Undersheriff told the News-Capital at the time that the state medical examiner’s office took possession of the remains and is working to determine the identity of the man, as well as the cause and manner of death.

Since then, the medical examiner has determined the remains are that of a white or Hispanic man between 40 and 60 years of age, according to the OSBI. The man is believed to have been between 5 foot, 3 inches and 5 foot, 8 inches tall and was right handed, investigators have determined. And at some point in his life he suffered a broken lower left rib.

Investigators believe the body was placed in that wooded area between two and five years ago, accoridng to the OSBI. The medical examiner’s office is unable to determine the cause and manner of death at this time, the OSBI said.

Because the man’s description does not fit any missing persons in the surrounding area, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s investigators are hopful the skull reconstruction will help someone recognize the victim.

“The reconstruction is only meant to resemble the victim,” according to the OSBI, “not mimic his appearance.”

If anyone believes the skull reconstruction looks similar to someone who has not been seen in several years, call the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office at 918-423-5858.
