More than 41 years of planning has gone into tomorrow’s Annual Women’s Holy Week Salad Luncheon.
All area women and encouraged to attend the free luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple on Second Street and Adams Avenue.
The speaker and musician for this year’s event is Kaye Edwards Shields.
A McAlester native, Shields now lives in Shawnee with her husband, Bill where she maintains a voice and piano studio.
She has a bachelor of music education degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and a master of music degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Shields has won numerous awards such as the 2011 Distinguished Teacher by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association.
In June, Shields will receive an award from the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association for teaching music 40 consecutive years in Oklahoma.
She has performed sacred and classical concerts in Spain and also throughout the Philippines. She has also presented numerous concerts in churches throughout Oklahoma.
Shields recently retired after serving 15 years as organist of the Shawnee First Christian Church.
Churches participating in the event are First Baptist, First Christian, First United Methodist, All Saints Episcopal, St. John the Evangelist Catholic and First Presbyterian.
— Ladies who do not work outside the home are asked to bring a large salad and plan to arrive by 11:15 with their salad.
— The dish should have their name on it so that it can be returned.
— Serving utensils will be provided.
— Ladies working outside the home should plan to arrive at 11:30.
— Baby-sitting is available by calling the First Baptist Church at 918 423-0990.
