The Savanna Police Department can now provide back up outside Savanna city limits according to an agreement with Pittsburg County Sheriff signed Monday.
The Interlocal Agreement was unanimously approved during a regular meeting of the Pittsburg County commissioners at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
According to the agreement both parties can respond within each others jusridictions when needed.
“This agreement helps us and it helps them,” said Sheriff Joel Kerns.
“They can assist us when we need it outside their city limits.”
Meanwhile Savanna Police Chief David Spears said he’s happy to work with the sheriffs department.
“We appreciate the Sheriff helping us, Spears said. “It’s a definitely a plus to have their cooperation.”
Last week the commissioners approved an agreement to allow the Savanna Police Department to utilize the Pittsburg County Criminal Justice Center courtroom and jail.
Also attending Monday’s meeting District 3 Commissioner Chairman Ronnie Young and District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers and District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.
The Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Conference Room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
The meetings are open to the public.
