Couple celebrates 70 years of marriage

McALESTER — On Nov. 24, 2012, Earl and Sylvia Folsom were honored at a reception to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in the Family Center of the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester.

The reception was hosted by their daughters, Sandra Brown, Linda Cropco, Deborah Vanlandingham and Beverly Grubb.

Earl Folsom and Sylvia Janway were married Nov. 13, 1942, in Brooken. Soon afterwards, Earl Folsom was drafted into the Navy and served in the Pacific theater of the war.

After the war, he went to work for the Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester. He worked there until he retired in 1974. After retirement, he began a second career with McAlester Public Schools where he worked until 1984.

Sylvia Folsom worked for McAlester Public Schools, the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, and as a homemaker.

In addition to their daughters, they have several grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Folsoms now reside in Krebs and are members of the McAlester First Free Will Baptist Church.
