Saddle to benefit Wounded Warrior

McALESTER — Local supporters of the Wounded Warrior Project can cowboy — or cowgirl — up to help the cause by buying a chance on a custom-made saddle.

The saddle has been on display at Freedom Ford over the past week and is set to go on display Monday at Cavender’s Western Outfitters at 528 S. George Nigh Expwy.

“You can buy chances there or at the Chamber,” said Tanaye Harvanek, president of the McAlester Chamber of Commerce, at 101 S. Second St.

Tickets for a chance on the custom-made Oxbow saddle are $5 each, or five for $20.

It’s a fund-raiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to “honor and empower our wounded warriors,” primarily designed in regard to members of the military with service-connected injuries that occurred on or after  Sept., 11, 2001.

The custom-made saddle has been donated through an effort headed by Mike Graham, of Mike Graham Auctioneers, Johnson Motors, and others, according to Harvanek.

It’s in relation with the Professional Bull Riders “Buck’n Awesome Bull Extravaganza,” set to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Southeast Expo Center.

Harvanek said the saddle will be given away at the end of the bull-riding event.

Tickets to attend the bull-riding extravaganza, part of the PBR Touring Pro Division, are $20 to $35 and are available at Cavender’s and Freedom Ford, and online at www.mcalester.org.

“I hope  people come out and support the project,” said Harvanek.
