This year's 8th-Grade Career and College Expo is set for Oct. 24 and business exhibitors are needed, organizers say.

The all-day event is organized by Eastern Oklahoma State College and will be held at the Southeast Expo Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More than 1,000 eighth grade students, high school seniors, adult volunteers, and hundreds of exhibitors representing many different businesses and industries are expected to attend this year, Brooks said.

“It’s a really giant career fair,” said Anne Brooks director of EOSC’s McAlester campus.

“The expo helps students see what careers are out there and it encourages them to graduate from high school. It lets them know they need a diploma.”

She said during the expo the students visit the different exhibitor booths and ask questions and have the opportunity learn about the different jobs that are available.

“They can learn about different industries and how long they need to plan to go to school,” Brooks said.

Meanwhile businesses that participate will have an opportunity to meet and help provide guidance to the eighth graders, as well as gain access to hundreds of other volunteers, professionals, organizations, and businesses in southeastern Oklahoma, Brooks said.

“The networking possibilities alone are worth the time investment, and they are helping to play a critical role in the education of our community students.”

There is no fee for an exhibit booth but registration is required.
