Clayton man in critical condition after car accident

McALESTER — A Clayton man is in critical condition after being in a car accident Thursday afternoon.

Paul Herbert Drew Jr., 63, of Clayton, was transported by Eagle Med to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa and listed in critical condition Thursday with head, internal trunk and leg injuries.

Just after noon that day, Drew was traveling southbound on State Highway 2, approximately three miles south of Wilburton in Latimer County, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

Drew was driving a 2012 Dodge truck while Aaron Grey, 51, of Talihina, was traveling northbound in a 2012 Ford truck, the report states. Drew’s truck departed the roadway to the right, according to the report. Drew then overcorrected and “went into a broad slide into the northbound lane and was struck by (Grey’s truck) in the passenger door,” the report states.

Both drivers were pinned in their trucks for about 10 minutes, OHP reported, before being freed by the Wilburton Fire Department by way of the Hurst Tool, a hydraulic rescue device. Grey was transported to the Latimer County Hospital, where he was treated and released.

On Friday morning, a representative from St. John’s said Drew was admitted in the intensive care unit and is still listed in critical condition. OHP Trooper Tim Baker, of the Latimer County Detachment, investigated the accident.
