Tonight is the last in the "Much Depends on Dinner" series at McAlester Public Library

McALESTER — The final book in the reading and discussion series “Much Depends on Dinner” at McAlester Public Library will be the subject of Thursday night’s program.

Dr. Lewis Parkhill, Professor Emeritus of English and past chair of the Department of English and Languages at East Central University in Ada, will present “Secrets of the Tsil Café” by Thomas Fox Averill at 6 p.m. Thursday.

This coming-of-age story, part of the Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma program, focuses on Weston Hingler, who is trapped by his wayward parents’ secret and complicated histories, as well as by the café customers and employees privy to his family’s secrets.

Books, services and other materials are provided by LTAIO, a project of the Oklahoma Humanities Council, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Local funding is provided by the Friends of the Library and the J.G. Puterbaugh Foundation.

Dr. Parkhill’s Ph.D. in American Literature is from the University of Texas at Austin. He has taught writing, humanities, film and world, British and American literatures. He served on the board of the Oklahoma Humanities Council and is a former chair of the OHC board.  He is a five-time mayor of the city of Tishomingo.
