McALESTER — Early in-person absentee ballot voting is set to continue Monday in advance of Tuesday municipal elections in Krebs, Harthsorne, Haileyville and Kiowa, along with a special school runoff in the Clayton school district.

Prior to the polls opening, early in-person absentee ballots can be cast by qualified voters from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday at the Pittsburg County Election Board Office, 109 E. Carl Albert Parkway, Room 101.

Following the early voting, polls are set to be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday in precincts where the elections are being held.

Candidates or propositions on the ballot are:

• Haileyville — Lynette Boren-Price and Regina Peoples are in a race for seat No. 4A on the Haileyville City Council.

• Hartshorne — William RogerBill Windham and Nathan Sparks are facing each other for an unexpired term for the Ward 3 city council seat.

• Kiowa — Floyd Ray Goss and Ned. E. Naugle are vying for an unexpired term for office No. 4. on the Kiowa Board of Trustees.

• Krebs — Voters will decided whether to pay a 1 percent sales tax “to replace and supersede the one percent excise tax currently being levied pursuant to Ordinance No. 1.

Calling the tax a “replacement tax,” the ballot states proceeds “shall be used for completing and maintaining streets, drainage and other capital improvements on behalf of the city heretofore or hereafter approved by the voters of the city...”

The proposition states the termination date for the collection of the sales tax is April 1, 2023.

In the Clayton School Board race, Brian Schumann and Crystal Fuller Bray are in run-off election for the seat in Office No. 3.

Regarding the early in-person absentee ballot voting running through Monday, Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Cathy Thornton said voters are not required to give a reason for voting absentee.
