Everything is set for Saturday’s poker run to benefit the Bache Red Oak Cemetery Association, said organizer Larry Charlie Brown” Browning.
The poker run is a first for the cemetery,
He said several groups have signed up including the Combat Veterans Association, but there’s plenty of room for more participants.
And he said you don’t have to ride a motorcycle to join in, any vehicle will do.
Browning said idea for the poker run came after he saw the work that needed to be done at the cemetery.
He talked to his friend Dan Heathcock and they decided to do a poker run to benefit the Red Oak cemetery association.
Browning participates in several poker runs on his red 1976 Volkswagen powered trike.
He said although he’s never heard of a poker run for a cemetery he hopes this will become an annual event.
Meanwhile, sign-ups for the run will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday and an entry fee of $15 includes lunch after the run.
At 10 a.m. the Choctaw Nation Honor Guard will start the run with the Posting of the Colors followed by a 21-gun salute in honor of all veterans and all those who presently serve, Browning said.
The route will start at the cemetery off State Highway 270 in Bache and stop in Hartshorne, Wilburton, Quinton and at Krebs Corner.
He said the final stop will be back at the cemetery where lunch will be served and prizes awarded.
Browning said payouts will depend on the number of entries ...“it’s a 50/50 payout.”
“Donations will be accepted at First National Bank of McAlester,” he said.
The cemetery is off State Highway 270 in Bache.
