McALESTER — Two McAlester residents have been charged with felony embezzlement for allegedly appropriating funds by fraud while serving on the Grand Avenue Community Center board.

Thursday, James McNeil appeared in court pertaining to charges of felony embezzlement by allegedly appropriating the sum of $2,950 by fraud while serving as board president, according to a police affidavit that has been filed with the Pittsburg County District Court.

And a warrant has been issued for Deidre Harris on charges of embezzlement for allegedly appropriating the sum of $14,675 by fraud while serving as a board member, according to a police affidavit filed in the case.

McNeil's lawyer, Michael Parks, said Pittsburg County Special Judge Tim Mills has set a preliminary hearing conference for McNeil on Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

McNeil pleaded innocent to the charge and has been released in lieu of a $2,500 bond.

A phone number to contact Deidre Harris was not found and she had not been arrested by the time this article was prepared for publication.
