Volunteers making plans for the 28th Annual Pittsburg County Community Thanksgiving Dinner want to remind those wishing to participate they should make arrangements to do so by Monday.
Those needing to make reservations can phone (918) 423-7379, organizers said. Volunteers will be available to answer the phone during regular business hours today, Thursday, Friday and Monday, according to organizers of the event.
Former Pittsburg County Assessor Jim Kelley, who is one of those helping organize the dinner, said making the reservation by phone or application is important in making plans for the Thanksgiving dinner.
“If they can, it makes it so much easier for us in preparation,” Kelley said. “It helps so much if we can get a good count by Monday.”
Those planning the Community Thanksgiving Dinner say they can always use more volunteers. The number to call to volunteer, whether by helping prepare the food next week, or by making deliveries on Thanksgiving Day, can also phone (918) 423-7379, Kelley said.
Once again, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner is open to anyone who wants to participate, with no age or income guidelines.
Plans call for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner to be served at noon on Thanksgiving Day at the George Nigh National Guard Armory at Third Street and Polk Avenue.
Those who want to pick up meals for home deliveries can begin doing so by around 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, which this year falls on Nov. 28.
Also, home deliveries can be arranged in Pittsburg County for those who cannot make it to the armory, which is another reason to call in advance.
“They need to be prepared to give us good directions,” Kelley said.
