Local group to improve historic building through grant

Twin Cities Revitalization Project receives paint to transform Texaco Station

HAILEYVILLE — Fresh Paint Days, a statewide program of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB), is underway as Twin Cities Revitalization Project works to revamp the former Texaco Station. The structure is located at the corner of Main and Horine. This building is one of the most visible structures from highway 270 as you pass through Haileyville. It is on the main thoroughfare of town and you must drive past the building to get to the school or city hall.

According to Twin Cities Revitalization Project President Regina Peoples, a fresh coat of paint is exactly what this town needs to show the community what a little paint, some volunteers and some elbow grease can do for their town.

“We plan to do more than just paint the exterior, we want to clean the brush around the building, plant a small garden, and put a sign on the building boasting our town’s name,” said Peoples. “This is a building that residents drive past every day and we are hoping that seeing us out cleaning the area will encourage others to get involved.”

The group will have 30 days to complete their projects by using donated paint from H.I.S. Coatings of Oklahoma and a stipend from Public Service Company of Oklahoma - both partners with KOB.

They will be one of 34 groups competing for a “Best Visual Impact” award in a KOB social media contest called “Communities Primed for Change.” Finalists will be chosen based on their before and after results, but winners won’t be announced until KOB’s annual Environmental Excellence Awards Celebration on Nov. 19.

Keep Oklahoma Beautiful is a statewide nonprofit with a mission to empower Oklahomans to keep our state clean, enhance its natural beauty and sustain a healthy environment.
