On Tuesday, 1,370 head of cattle were sold at the McAlester Union Stockyards. Steers  sold $1 to $18 higher than at the last sale. Heifers sold $3 to $7 higher.

Consignments are open for the next replacement cow sale set for Sept. 28.

There were 130 cows and bulls sold at the evening sale Tuesday at McAlester Union Stockyards.

Packer cows sold $4 lower than at the last sale, and packer bulls sold $2 higher.

High-yielding packer bulls sold from $105 to $108. Average-yielding packer bulls sold from $101 to $104. Low-yielding packer bulls sold from $90 to $95.

High-yielding packer cows sold from $87 to $93. Average-yielding packer cows sold from $83 to $87. Low-yielding packer cows sold from $71 to $85.

A sale is held at the stockyards every Tuesday, with sales of stocker and feeder cattle beginning at 10 a.m. and sales of cows and bulls beginning at 6 p.m.

    Former Ward 4 City Councilor Robert Karr filed his declaration of candidacy for the vacant Ward 4 seat, filled out the papers, got them notarized and back into the  Pittsburg County Election Board office just three minutes before the deadline to do so elapsed at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

    The McAlester Public Library will offer a free Computer Skills Workshop from April 16 to 18.
    The hands-on workshop will be taught by computer technician Anthony Smart and each participant will have a computer to work with.  The class will be held from 2:30 until 4 p.m. each day and is limited to 10 students.

    Storm sirens are set for testing Wednesday in McAlester as well as a number of other Pittsburg County communities.
    “We will be testing from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., weather permitting,” said Lois Lupardus, assistant director of the McAlester/Pittsburg County Office of Emergency Management.
