State Rep Brian Renegar hospitalized with chest pains

McALESTER — District 17 state Rep. Dr. Brian Renegar, D-McAlester, has been transported to an Oklahoma City hospital after experiencing chest pains during a stress test in McAlester today (Tuesday), according to his wife, Theresa Renegar.

Rep. Renegar first went to the hospital over the weekend, his wife said.

“He went to the emergency room in McAlester on Saturday,” Theresa Renegar said. She said her husband underwent a cardiac enzyme test at that time.

“He hasn’t had a heart attack,” she said.

Following the weekend hospital visit, Rep. Renegar returned to the McAlester Regional Health Center today (Tuesday) for a stress test, she said.

When he experienced chest pains during the test, he was briefly hospitalized and then the decision was made to transport him to Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma for further testing, Theresa Renegar said.

“He’s not in any pain; it wasn’t an emergency,” Theresa Renegar said. She said her husband had asked if she could drive him to the hospital, but medical personnel advised that he be transported by ambulance. She followed in a private vehicle.

Brian Renegar’s son, Cory Renegar, is a medical technologist at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Theresa Renegar said her husband already had some appointments scheduled at OHH, which factored into the decision to transport him to the Oklahoma City facility.

“Brian has a lot of faith in the McAlester hospital,” she said.

Theresa Renegar said her husband may have an angiogram, which is a test to determine if there is any blockage in the arteries, while at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.

Rep. Renegar’s administrative assistant at the state Capitol Louise Aldridge, said he had been in session at the state legislature Monday and had planned to return as soon as possible.

Rep. Renegar, a McAlester veterinarian, was elected to the District 17 state representative’s post in 2007. He won another two-year term without opposition last November, when no candidate filed to run against him.

Some of the communities in Renegar’s district include McAlester, Krebs, Alderson, Hartshorne Haileyville, Savanna, Pittsburg. Quinton, Crowder, Canadian,  Wilburton, Red Oak, Talihina and Fanshawe.
