McALESTER — Winners of the McAlester Main Streets 2011 Parade of Lights have been announced.
First place was Sprocket Wireless. The prize was $300 and a trophy “Star of Bethlehem.”
Second place was Leader Group Realty, LLC. The prize was $200 and a trophy “Grail.”
Third place was KIBOIS Head Start. The prize was $150 and a trophy “Angel.”
The parade was a successful event this year, according to Carol Ervin executive director of McAlester Main street and one of the organizers.
“I would just like to say thank you to everyone who worked hard on their floats and helped make this Parade of lights spectacular.”
Ervin said she was impressed with the large turn-out for the parade.
“The crowd on Choctaw from Main Street to Third Street which was estimated at over 3,000 people and we estimate close to 600 pounds of candy was given out.
She said she appreciated all the help it took to make the parade a success.
“The city of McAlester, the Sheriff’s Dept. and the Reserve Officers are greatly appreciated for all their hard work, Ervin said. “And the wonderful city employees that donated their time to help in so many ways. What a wonderful town we have.”
The parade was sponsored by PSO, BEMAC, Chaney Harkins Funeral Home and McAlester Arts and Humanities.
Next year, Ervin said the theme for the parade will be a Victorian Christmas.
