Tickets are now on sale for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet set for Jan, 18, organizers say.
Members of the Pittsburg County Holiday Commission will host the annual banquet at 6 p.m. at the McAlester High School Cafeteria,1 Buffalo Dr., according to organizer Carrie Parks.
“We really would like to encourage the public to attend this year’s MLK events,” Parks said.
She said the theme of this year’s annual banquet is “Remembering the Dream, Continuing the Dream.”
The speaker for the banquet will be Presiding Judge David B. Lewis, Court of Criminal Appeals in District No. 5, according to Parks.
“Judge Lewis is the first African American to serve on the Court of Criminal Appeals,” Parks said.
“He was appointed by former Gov, Brad Henry in 2005 and currently serves as presiding judge.”
Also during the banquet, the MLK Unity Choir and the MLK Junior choir are set to perform.
Adults advance tickets are $8 $9 the door; youth advance tickets are $4 or $5 at the door.
She said tickets can be purchased from any Pittsburg County Holiday Commission member.
Meanwhile Parks said the banquet is part of a two day event to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
She said a commemorative service be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 at the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, 408 E. Wyandotte.
“The speaker for the commemorative service is Pastor Monica Bailey pastor of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church,” Parks said.
The MLK Unity Choir will also perform during the commemorative service.
