Girl injured in Lake Eufaula boating accident

McALESTER — A personal injury on Lake Eufaula sent a Jenks girl to the hospital after she fell off a boat and the  propeller hit her.

The juvenile girl, whose name was not released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, was transported by medical flight to Saint Francis Children’s Hospital In Tulsa, where she was listed in stable condition with a leg injury, the highway patrol said.

Authorities said the accident occurred at 8:26 p.m. Saturday as David Jones, 42, of Bristow, drove a 1991 Pontoon boat in the Eufaula Cove area of  Lake Eufaula.

The child was sitting on boat’s bow, dragging her feet in the water, when she fell off the boat and was hit by the propellor, the highway patrol said.

Following the accident, the girl was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Eufaula, then sent by medical flight to St. Francis Children’s Hospital, the highway patrol said.

Jones and two adult passengers, Brant Ford, 33, of Eufaula, and Carrie Underwood, 42, of Claremore, (not the country singer, who is 31,) were not injured in the accident. Three other juveniles, from Eufaula, Claremore and Sapulpa, who were on the boat were also uninjured, according to the highway patrol.

Trooper Scott Lee, of the Marine Enforcement Division of Troop D Oklahoma Highway Patrol headquarters in  McAlester investigated the accident, with assistance from troopers James Furtal, Lt. Brian Hale and Justin Williams, also of Troop D’s Marine Enforcement  Division.
