Walker, Best file for school board spots

By James Beaty
Senior Editor

Two incumbents on the McAlester School board have filed for re-election and a race is set in the Indianola School District as the filing period for school board candidates entered its second day.

Ann Walker has filed for re-election to Office No. 3 and Tara Best is seeking another term in Office No. 6 in the McAlester School District. Both seats are for four-year terms.

In the Indianola School District, Billy Vaughn and Rod Griffith have both filed for a five-year in Office No. 3.

The filing period for candidates in school districts in Pittsburg County extends through 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Other public school districts in Pittsburg County where school board seats are open and candidates have filed are:

• Canadian — Orda A. Selph has filed for a five-year term in Office No. 3 and Jim Ramsey is seeking an unexpired term in Office No. 5.

• Crowder — Elizabeth Jameson filed for a five-year term in Office No. 3.

• Hartshorne — Joe Budzinsky is running for a five-year term in Office No. 3.

• Haileyville — Jared J. Hauhff is seeking an unexpired term in Office No. 2. A five-year term in Office No. 3 is also up for election.

• Kiowa — Karla Hall filed for a five-year term in Office No. 3.

• Pittsburg — Steve Billingsley is running for a five-year term in Office No. 3.

• Savanna — Jimmie D. Davis II filed for a five-year term in Office No. 3.

No candidates had filed for school board seats in the public school districts as of early today, where the following offices are up for election:

• Frink-Chambers — A three-year term in Office No. 1.

• Haywood — A three-year term in Office No. 1.

• Krebs — A three-year term in Office No. 1.

• Quinton — A five-year term for Office No. 3.

Candidates for school board seats up for election in Pittsburg County can file declarations of candidacy at the Pittsburg County Election Board office on the first floor of the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

The school board elections are set for Feb. 5. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes will be on the ballot again on April 1.
