The filing period for candidates in 14 school districts in Pittsburg County begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, with two school board seats up for election in the McAlester school district.
In McAlester, Office No. 3, currently held by Ann Walker, and Office No. 6, held by Tara Best, are up for election. Both are open for four-year terms.
Filings of candidacy will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Wednesday at the Pittsburg County Election Board office on the first floor of the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
The election for the school board seats is set for Feb. 5. If no candidate garners more than 50 percent of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes will run again on April 1.
Seventeen seats in the 14 school districts will be open.
Other school districts in Pittsburg County where school board seats are up for election and the offices which are open include:
• Canadian — Office No. 3 for a five-year term and Office No. 5 for an unexpired term.
• Crowder — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Frink-Chambers — Office No. 1 for a three-year term.
• Hartshorne — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Haileyville — Office No. 3 for a five-year term and Office No. 2 for an unexpired term.
• Haywood — Office No. 1 for a three-year term.
• Indianola — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Kiowa — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Krebs — Office No. 1 for a three-year term.
• Pittsburg — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Quinton — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Savanna — Office No. 3 for a five-year term.
• Tannehill — Office No. 1 for a three-year term.
