Fort Gibson topic for McAlester Archeological Society July meeting

David Fowler, historical interpreter of the Fort Gibson Historical Site will be speaking at the McAlester Archeological Society’s monthly meeting on July 9 at Krebs City Hall at 5 E. Washington in Krebs. The meeting will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Fowler has an extensive background in American Indian history and historical interpretation with emphasis on the Cherokees and their removal to Indian Territory. He has been with the Fort Gibson Historic Site in Fort Gibson since 2001. Fowler received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Native American Studies in 1996 at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Fowler is involved with many organizations. He is a founding member and president of 6th Infantry Living History Association, 1999-current. He is involved with Company of Military Historians, 2006-current; Arkansas Living History Association, charter member 2007-current; and U.S.S. Batfish Association, charter member 2007-current. He is also a current member of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Fowler’s program will be on the history of the fort and stockade at Fort Gibson. Everyone is invited and there is no charge.
