The 100th Annual Convention of the Oklahoma Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met in June at Grove hosted by the Cowskin Prairie Chapter No. 2611. A bus tour was enjoyed as it traveled across the northeast part of the state visiting a number of interesting sights with Civil War Era.
The first night, flags were presented and posted by four members wearing Native American dress. Charleen Samuels, representing the Dixie chapter No. 2543 from McAlester, was one of the women, wearing a deep rose with maroon trim Choctaw dress. She was also the parade marshal.
Justine Gore, from Stuart, a member of the Dixie chapter furnished music with her keyboard for the entire convention. One night, we enjoyed Native American food including fry bread and grape dumplings.
Janice Langford, the president general, attended to help the group celebrate. She swore in the new Division officers. Oklahoma Division President Mary Jeanne Hansen was present also along with all other division officers. New officers were elected for the 2008-2010 term. Charleen Samuels was elected as Vice President and Justine Gore was elected as Registrar.
The Dixie chapter scrapbook designed by member Linda Collier won first place for the second year in a row.
The 2008-2009 convention will be held in June 2009 in McAlester. The Dixie Chapter No. 2543 with the Jefferson Davis Chapter No. 2255 from Oklahoma City will co-host with assistance from the Cowskin Prairie Chapter.
