Homeless man found dead

By Marketta Johnson
Staff Writer

A man police say was homeless, Denny Billy, 65, was found dead Saturday in a grassy area near the W.E. Allford underpass at the east end of Wade Watts Boulavard.

A call came into the McAlester Police Department at 9:44 a.m. Saturday from a concerned citizen who saw the man on the ground.

According to Detective Division Capt. Don Hass, the whole day shift of McAlester Police were on the scene.

The medical examiner was called to the scene along with McAlester detective Sgt. Dick Stites.

According to Hass, no cause of death has been determined at this time; however, it appears to be natural causes.

The next step in the investigation, police say, is a report from the state medical examiner.
