Posession of Xanax, other drug leads to felony charges

By Jeremy Higgins
Asst. editor

Felony charges were filed in Pittsburg County District Court Tuesday against Krebs Animal Control officer Frederick Charles Martin.

Martin made an initial appearance in the courtroom of Special Judge Donnita Wynn Tuesday and now faces two felonies — unlawful possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute and unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription.

After being stopped for running a stop sign in his Krebs Animal Control truck Monday evening, Martin was arrested when McAlester Police found xanax and hydrocodone in his possession. Martin is also being charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs.

On the first felony count, possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, Martin could be punished with a fine of $20,000 or imprisonment for up to two years to life, or both. The second felony is punishable by imprisonment for not less than two years, nor more than 10 years.

Martin was released from the Pittsburg County Jail after posting a $2,500 bond Tuesday. A pretrial conference in the case has been set for July 11 at 9 a.m. in Winn’s courtroom.
