ATV accident sends woman to hospital

By James Beaty
Senior Editor

A Kiowa woman has been hospitalized following a roll-over accident on an all-terrain vehicle in Pittsburg.

Wendy Jo Thomas, 36, was transported by medical helicopter to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. She was reported in serious condition with head injuries, the highway patrol said.

The accident occurred around 4:32 p.m. on Thursday at Seventh Street and Hearod Street in Pittsburg, the highway patrol said.

Thomas was driving a 2001 Suzuki all-terrain vehicle heading south on Seventh Street, an OHP spokesman said.

The ATV ran off the right side of the road, re-entered the roadway and rolled one complete time, ejecting Thomas, the highway patrol said. Thomas was ejected 18 feet from the point of impact, according to the highway patrol.

OHP Trooper Mike Stafford of the Pittsburg County Detachment of Troop D Highway Patrol headquarters in McAlester investigated the accident.
