Sales taxes more down than up

Quinton and Atoka both showed marked decreases in May sales tax disbursements from the Oklahoma Tax Commission, while McAlester received about $5,000 more, compared to May 2007.
The city of Atoka received nothing in the month of May, although it received $6,190.76 this time last year. The city of Quinton was even more pronounced — $250.26, compared to the previous $16,179.03.
McAlester city coffers pulled in $47,118.44, down from $51,329.77.
Pittsburg County received less money, too, a mere $24,917.05, down from the comparatively enormous May 2007 check, which was for $112,038.70.
The May distribution of sales tax collections by the OTC represents tax receipts from March 16 to April 15.
The disbursement of $110,022.90 in sales tax collections was returned to 504 cities and towns, reflecting an increase of $2,301,534 from the $107,721,286 distributed to 500 cities and towns in May of last year. The use tax disbursement of $8,167,918 was distributed between 334 cities and towns.
In county returns, 73 counties shared in a $22,686,743 sales tax disbursements. The use tax disbursement of $1,718,157 was distributed between 59 counties.
Here are the use tax disbursements for area cities and towns, compared to May 2007:
• Alderson: $10,566.45, up from $9,113.80
• Allen: $941.70, down from $2,025.97
• Atoka: $0, down from $6,190.76
• Calvin: $87.79, down from $440.43
• Canadian: $677.95, down from $1,424.79
• Coalgate: $4,816.05, up from $2,603.17
• Crowder: $371.23, up from $173.97
• Eufaula: $4,115.03, down from $5,085.60
• Haileyville: $107.48, down from $120.77
• Hartshorne: $1,388.78, down from $1,876.93
• Kiowa: $552.90, up from $227.01
• Krebs: $6,920.23, up from $6,036.87
• McAlester: $47,118.44, down from $51,329.77
• Quinton: $250.26, down from $16,179.03
• Savanna: $294.01, up from $215.30
• Stigler: $7,521.08, down from $9,548.46
• Wilburton: $5,418.12, down from $13,017.60
Use tax disbursements for area counties:
• Atoka County: $4,435.13, down from $15,296.29
• Haskell County: $1,558.03, down from $17,924.84
• Latimer County: $28,051.82, up from $18,445.08
• McIntosh County: $6,952.47, down from $30,061.92
• Pittsburg County: $24,917.05, down from $112,038.70
