Two weekend accidents left one area man and one area woman in critical condition and took the life of another.
Early Friday morning, just after midnight, a 1995 Ford pickup driven by Chance Douthitt, 21, Kiowa, was headed north on Brewer Road. Douthitt’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and crossed over the road before striking a bridge embankment and then impacting a tree, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report made by trooper Mike Stafford.
Douthitt was transported by MediFlight to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa where he was listed in serious condition.
Charlsey Silva, 30, Kiowa, was a passenger in Douthitt’s vehicle at the time of the accident and was treated and released at McAlester Regional Health Center.
A 1:37 a.m. Saturday, William Gibson, 37, Stuart, died in a one-vehicle accident on Ashland Road, five miles west of U.S. Highway 69. Gibson was riding in a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by Michelle Gibson, 38, also of Stuart.
The Gibson’s vehicle was eastbound when it went off the right side of the road, down an embankment, and overturned twice, striking several trees according to an OHP report by trooper Garrett Gray.
William Gibson died at the scene from massive head and trunk injuries and Michelle Gibson was transported by Air Evac to Norman Regional Hospital.
She was listed in critical condition with spinal injuries. Both William and Michelle Gibson were pinned in the vehicle for two and one half hours and were freed by the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Fire Department.
Seat belts were not in use by any of the four accident victims.
