Savanna names eighth grade valedictorian and salutatorian

— Savanna Junior High School has announced the selection of the valedictorian and salutatorian of the eighth grade class. The junior high graduation ceremony took place at the Pearl Dunn Cafetorium on Monday.
Bernie Ray Underwood III has been named the valedictorian of the 2009 eighth grade class of Savanna Public Schools. He is the son of Bernie Ray Underwood Jr. and Leanne Underwood of Savanna. He is the grandson of Lynn Armstrong Smith and Sharon Ott Gleese.
Underwood has maintained a 4.0 GPA. He has also been active in football, basketball and track for the past six years. He has been on the academic team for two years.
Underwood is a member of Frink Baptist Church. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoys playing video games and hanging out with friends and family.
Laura Ann Osborne, the daughter of Jeff and Cheryl Osborne of Savanna has been named salutatorian of the Savanna, eighth grade class of 2009. She is the granddaughter of Ann Pollack, of Krebs, and the late Bill and Wanda Osborne, of Savanna. She is the great-granddaughter of Odell and Kathryn Melton, of Savanna.
Osborne has maintained a 3.8 GPA. She has been active in basketball and track for six years.
She has been involved with softball and band for two years.
Osborne is a member of the Haywood Baptist Church. Her hobbies include camping, fishing and swimming. She also enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with friends.
