The Kiowa Masonic Lodge No. 117 and the Pittsburg County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments were happy to present a check to Clayton Rice on April 20. Rice was severely injured when responding to a fire in Pittsburg County. His injuries required reconstructive surgery.
A joint fundraiser was held at Kiowa School where a meal of indian tacos and all the trimmings was served.
A pie and cake auction was held following the meal.
Every volunteer fire department in the county was involved in selling tickets and soliciting donations.
In attendance for the presentation were representatives of the Kiowa, Ashland, Pittsburg, Blanco and Union Chapel fire departments. Members of the ladies auxiliary, who played a role in preparing, coordinating and serving the meal, were also in attendance.
Following the presentation Clayton expressed his sincere appreciation for the assistance. He reported that he had just begun the rehabilitation part of his treatment.
He was also happy to announce that he had graduated from a walker to a cane and looks forward to discarding the cane soon.
