The Ardeneum of Oklahoma Charitable and Educational Foundation, Inc. of McAlester is sponsoring a trip for 450 students from McAlester and the surrounding areas to attend the Tulsa Opera’s production L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love).
On Tuesday students from McAlester, Haileyville, Crowder, Kiamichi Technology Center, and Jones Academy will see music come to life.
Gaetano Donizetti’s masterpiece L’Elisir d’Amore will be performed in it’s original Italian, but the Tulsa Opera will have an English translation running on a screen above the stage. Teachers have also been sent information packets, so that they can help students become familiar with the story before the performance.
Operas are very expensive undertaking because of the labor involved in creating a performance to delight all the senses. From beautiful costumes and sets to a full symphony orchestra, the stories and music of the past comes to life. The Ardeneum believes area students should have an opportunity to see world culture at its finest.
