Last Holy Week devotional breakfast ends on high note

— The final day of the Men’s Holy Week breakfast series at First Baptist Church saw the largest crowd of the week with 178 men in attendance on Saturday.
Lloyd Emmons from First Christian Church was the speaker for the final morning’s meeting. The Balcony Brass performed once again and after a breakfast of sausage, eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, orange juice and coffee, Emmons spoke to the audience.
The 82-year-old Emmons began the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and the trial. He talked about all the people who played a major role in the story, including: Pilot, the Roman governor who, according to Emmons, was “pretty deeply involved in Jesus’ trial and good friends with King Herod.” He spoke of how the crowd at Jesus’ trial chose to set Barrabas free instead of Christ.
Emmons talked about how Jesus prayed for God to forgive the ones who put Him to death and how Joseph of Arimathea took care of Jesus’ body after He had died. He then spoke about Mary Magdalene and Simon Peter, the disciple that denied knowing Jesus three times.
As Emmons finished his brief devotional talk, he said, “We believe Easter Sunday is special because it is the time when we as Christians celebrate God’s greatest gift.
“His son hanging on the cross and dying for our sins.”
