Races set for April elections

A race is set for an unexpired term for Haileyville police chief, with acting chief Alan Epps and Danny Karr both filing for the post.

Other races were set in Hartshorne, Kiowa and Krebs as the three day filing period for municipal candidates in the upcoming April 7 General Election ended at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

In Hartshorne, John Price and Charles E. Green Jr. both filed for the Ward 1 city council seat. Shirley Day had no opposition for the city treasurer’s post and Gilbert Edington proved to be the sole candidate for the Ward 4 city council seat.

Races were set in Kiowa for city treasurer and city clerk, as well as for the city council seats in Wards 1, 3 and 4.

Lena Heron and Cara Cole were vying for the city treasurer’s seat, while Joemae Peck and Sherry Owen are running for Kiowa city clerk.

Also in Kiowa, Jimmy Wayne Brown and Donald Batts filed for the Ward 1 post.

Ned E. Nagle and Sherry Stone are running for the Ward 3 seat. Danny Drake and Mary Cearly are seeking the Ward 4 post.

In Krebs, a three-way race is set for the city treasurer’s office. Tammi Garcia, Avie Heathcock and Frederick Martin filed for the post. Brandon DeFrange and Woody Coplen filed for the Ward 2 city council seat, while David Bailey remained unopposed for the Ward 4 seat.

With the exception of the police chief’s post in Haileyville, candidates for other offices were unopposed. They were city council Ward 3A, Johnny Joe James; Ward 4A, Lynette Boren; city clerk, Karri Teafatiller; Ward 2A, D.S. Starr, Jr.; treasurer, Audra Champion; Ward 1A Jessie Cobb.

In Alderson, Shelia R. Martin had no opposition for an unexpired term as city treasurer. Others who were unopposed in Alderson were Terryl McCoy for clerk, and town trustee, Randall Lopez.

At Quinton, candidates were Charlene Cass for city clerk/ treasurer and Ronald Wiggins and Marvin Ginn for the two open seats on the town trustee board.

In Savanna, the only candidates were Robbye A. Watts for town treasurer and John W. Nelson, Jr. for the Ward 2 council seat.
