A great rodeo

Editor:

It is certainly refreshing to have a day that gives respite from the news that can sometimes run from sad to bad. We on a local level can be justly proud of the two days when our community hosted the Oklahoma State Prison Rodeo.

I experienced the rodeo from a side that many never see. I was a concession worker for the Sertoma Club on both hot August nights; one of the vast number of workers that are needed to conduct an event of this size. I was witness to the Sertoma members, volunteers, young and old, giving their time and energy to set up, operate and dismantle the concessions that gave pleasure to the great crowds in attendance.

As Sertoma members, we especially want to thank the businesses that donated equipment and the workers, the young people who gave exuberance to a tough job, the McAlester Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture for their partnership, the prison staff that assured a safe and organized event, and especially those who worked the positions that kept them from seeing any of the rodeo events and dismantled the concessions that gave pleasure to the great crowds in attendance.

Good things do happen. Let’s recognize them and take every effort to make the positive side of our McAlester lifestyle the side we talk about and the side that makes the news.
