A parade?

Editor:

I am very sad and upset about the parade on May 3. It was not an Armed Forces Day parade; it seemed to be a political parade.

The service organizations were put at the back of the parade and the politicians were placed close to the front in the place of honor that should have been reserved for all military organizations. We do need the politicians in the parade, but let them follow the service personnel we are taking this time to honor.

Here in McAlester we should have one of the best military parades in Oklahoma. When the troops go marching by, it gives me chills just watching them.

A couple of years ago there was a huge helicopter that flew by at close to building-top level and it was one of the most touching moments, just seeing it and thinking about all of the brave men and women who are willing to give of their time, leave their families, and often, give their lives to keep us all safe and free.

We need a parade marshal who puts the most important things first. Put our service men, women and organizations at the front and let the politicians follow. The parade seemed smaller this year.

We all say we support our troops, and I know we can’t always be as involved as we would like, but, if at all possible, let’s get out there and show our support by participating in this parade, as well as in other areas.
