I would like to tell your readers about an interesting man living and working right in their area. His name is Jerry Earp and he is interesting because he has stayed interested in his community. Several years ago, Earp resurrected the Liberty Theater in Hartshorne and began slowly, on a very meager budget, bringing wholesome and colorful entertainment to our community.
And, he does something more: Earp’s shows remind us of our traditions and our truly American heritage, while providing a venue for many of our young people to realize their singing, dancing and technical talents.
Earp reminds us it’s OK to salute the flag, honor our veterans, love our country and embrace our Judeo-Christian traditions in our uniquely American way. He reminds us it’s OK to be corny, laugh out loud at slapstick comedy and find simple pleasure in the company of our oldest and youngest citizens — often crammed all together in the Liberty Theater, into which Earp has lovingly poured his time and energy and hard earned money.
Earp’s contribution to our community is that of a true patriot and he is one of our local heroes too. I hope many of your readers will honor him and treat themselves to a visit to one of his shows in a place where it’s still OK to be wholesome and American.
