Patricia Abernethy
Patricia Abernethy, of 85, of McAlester, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at a local nursing center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Al Davis officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Aug. 19, 1923, in Quinton, she was the daughter of Burke and Ila Mae Edwards. She attended school in Quinton before marring Robert W. Abernethy on July 17, 1940, in Haileyville.
In 1946, they moved to Buena Park, Calif., where they raised their children. She was a homemaker, a member of the PTA and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was also a member of the First Congregation Church.
In 1981 they returned to McAlester and became members of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, needlepoint and knitting.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Ware and Rita Abernethy, LaHabra, Calif., and William Ware and Christine Abernethy, Corona, Calif.
Also, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Snowder, of McAlester; five grandchildren and spouses, Brenda Abernethy, Andrew Abernethy, Debra and Bob Lininger, Tina and Jason May and Brian and Yvette Abernethy; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burke and Ila Edwards; her husband, Robert W. Abernethy, on April 8, 2008; a grandson, Ricky Abernethy Jr. and a brother, William Jack Edwards.
Pallbearers will be James Hoover, Brian Abernethy, Johnny Ball, David Edwards, Frank Ball and Tommy Ball.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Edwards, Joe Bertaldo and Don Jennings.
