Charles William Smoot
Charles William Smoot, 56, of McAlester, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Hartshorne, under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
The family will gather at Bishop Funeral Home today between 6 and 8 p.m.
Pallbearers include Nathaniel Brown, Toby Jenson, Gary Jenson, Raymond Wilson, Paul Giaudrone, Frank Fields, Vestor Lanning and Harold Gray. Honorary pallbearers include Jim Kindred, Randolph Scott and Clint Martin.
Born Feb. 28, 1952, in Jack Fork, he was the son of Eddie J. and Bessie C. Smith Smoot. He attended schools in the Hartshorne and Haileyville area and graduated from Haileyville High School where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. In 1971, he attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and received an associates degree in ranch management and later attended the Graham School where he received a degree in cattle management and breeding. He was then employed by the Department of Corrections and the Department of Transportation.
He also worked for the Dowell Schlumberger Chemical Division in El Reno, Edison Plastics and was a former member of the Krebs Fire Department. Over the past 15 years, he had reached a level of success of ownership and breeding of quarter horses. He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. He was a member of the Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Shawn Smoot, of Krebs; one brother, Eddie Leon Smoot, of San Diego, Calif., and an aunt, Gertrude Farrar, of Carlsbad, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie J. and Bessie Smoot.
