J.P. Waters
J.P. Waters, 92, a longtime resident of Pittsburg County, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel led by the Rev. Leonard Higgins.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church in McAlester with the Rev. Leonard Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born March 3, 1916, in Stamps, Ark., he was the son of Andrew and Margarite (Fritz) Waters. He worked as an aircraft construction supervisor for Boeing before being drafted.
He entered the United States Army in 1945 and was trained at Camp Fannin, Ga. He served as a cook during World War II and was discharged in 1946.
He owned a grocery store in Savanna and later worked as a letter carrier for the McAlester United States Postal Service before retiring. He married Eunice Ellison on May 20, 1994.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
He was also a member of the American Legion, St. John the Evangelist Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Waters, of the home; stepsons, Randy Davis and wife, Jeanene, of McAlester, Eddie Davis, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mike Davis and wife, Rae, Birmingham, Ala., and Ronnie Davis and wife, Julie, Crossville, Tenn.
Also, sisters, Dorothy Burt, Phoenix, Laura Stice, Lakewood, Colo., Geraldine Moore, Sacramento, Calif., and Dolores Kreis, of Colorado; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Waters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Margarite Waters; one son; one daughter; a brother, Gene Waters, and sisters, Jaunita Waters and Jo Leslie.
Pallbearers will be Bill Derichsweiler, Mark Derichsweiler, Joe Massaro, Derick Leslie, Lewis Zoomer and Kenny Curtis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Finger, Sam Magdalena, Dr. Chris Manschreck, Clyde Davis and the Knights of Columbus.
