Roderick ‘Rodney’ Jefferson
Roderick “Rodney” Jefferson, 60, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Muskogee.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Star Baptist Church in McAlester with the Rev. David C. Knighton officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born March 1, 1948, in McAlester, he was the son of Roderick Jefferson and Jeanette Smith. He attended L’Ouverture where he graduated in 1966. He later went to join the United States Job Corps.
He was a member of the East Star Baptist Church under the pastorage of the Rev. M.M. Williams. During his 50 year faithful membership, he served in a variety of capacities, such as superintendent of the Sunday school, director of Baptist training union and president of brotherhood and the usher board. He became an ordained deacon on Dec. 23, 2000.
He married Veronica Ellis on June 3, 1972, and they had two children. They later decided to adopt two additional children. He was employed by the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant until retiring. He also worked with Evening Springs and Dyer Funeral Homes providing valuable services.
Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Maddox, of McAlester; four children, Angela Jefferson, Atlanta, Keon Jefferson, of Oklahoma City, Felicia Jefferson, Los Angeles, and Michael Jefferson, San Antonio.
Also, three brothers, Jerry and wife, DaMaria Maddox, of McAlester, William Maddox, and Darrel and wife, Beverly Maddox, all of Oklahoma City, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; grandparents; father; brother; aunts and uncles.
