Pauline Wilcox

Pauline Carl Wilcox, 89, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of McAlester with the Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle with the Rev. Paul Box officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Aug. 24, 1919, in Stuart, she was the daughter of Kirby Monroe and Ola Ozella Box Sutterfield. She moved with her family to Newcastle as a child and graduated from Newcastle High School.

She married Jack C. Carl on Dec. 11, 1937, and they moved to Oklahoma City and then Midwest City, where she worked at the First Baptist Church of Midwest City as the financial secretary.

In 1959 they moved to Stuart and she worked in McAlester at the National Bank of McAlester. She was also, at this time, a member of the Stuart First Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1978. She later married Claude Wellington “Mike” Wilcox on Feb. 26, 1986, and they moved to McAlester in 2000. He also preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2002.

While in McAlester, she was a member of McAlester First Baptist Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a volunteer at McAlester Regional Health Center.

She was well known for her crocheting and sewing and enjoyed all the activities at Burgundy Place.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacqueline Jarnigan, of Edmond, and Elaine and W. Lee “Dub” Brown, of Stuart; eight grandchildren and spouses, Jana and Rory Black, of Oklahoma City, Judy and Mark White, Newport Beach, Calif., Jeri Lane Jarnigan, of Oklahoma City, Jeff and Elizabeth Jarnigan, San Jose, Calif., Jami and Bryan Beavers, of Edmond, Leigh Brown, Weatherford, Texas, Deborah and Brian Dancer, of Haskell, and Greg and April Brown, of McAlester; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Burton Sutterfield, Abilene, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Kirby and Ola Sutterfield; a sister, Mildred Cleo Palmer; a brother, Clinton “Duke” Sutterfield; a son-in-law, Jerry Ray Jarnigan, and a sister-in-law, Imogene Sutterfield.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International, McAlester Camp, P.O. Box 1967, McAlester, OK 74502.
