Bro. Clarence “Albert” Jarrett, of McAlester, Oklahoma died Sunday, September 14, 2008 in McAlester at the age of 83. Albert was born to Frank and Edna (Landers) Jarrett September 13, 1925 in Rocky Comfort, Missouri. Albert was raised by Floyd and Ethel Baker in the Ulan area. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in the Aleutian Island Campaign. He married Irene Bernhardt March 23, 1947 in Spring Hill, Oklahoma. Albert worked as an auto mechanic and painting contractor. He built and pastored Crowder Free Will Baptist Church, North McAlester Free Will Baptist Church and Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester. He assisted with building other churches and was an active member of the Gaines Creek Free Will Baptist Association. He was a member of the American Legion and served as chaplain for the Harrison Powers Post #79 of McAlester for many years. Albert loved his family and friends. He was a member of Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church.
Albert is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Irene of the home; son, Eddie Jarrett and wife Linda of McAlester; daughter, Elaine Caldwell of Thomason Station, TN; grandchildren, Rev. Brent and Melissa Jarrett of Indianola, OK, Paul and Jennifer Caldwell of Franklin, TN, Deanna and Ted Strzelecki of McAlester, Melinda and James Liles of Memphis, TN, John and Amy Jarrett of McAlester; step grandchildren, Toni and Sid Ellington, of Oklahoma City, Jason and Valerie Caldwell of Fort Greeley, AK, Matt and Autumn Caldwell of Mounds, OK; great grandchildren, Jaret Baker, Caleb Jarrett, Ryann Baker, Madeline Jarrett, Layne Jarrett, Micah Strzelecki, Haylee Jarrett, McKynlie Caldwell, Jackson Caldwell, Elston Liles, Becket Liles; brother Norman Jarrett and wife Gwen of Mountain Home, Arkansas; sister, Vera House and husband Wayne of Live Oak, California; numerous step great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edna Jarrett, Foster parents, Floyd and Ethel Baker; a brother, Mike Jarrett and a son-in-law, Jack Caldwell.
The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m Thursday September 18, 2008 at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2008 at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church of Indianola officiated by Rev. Fred Morrison, Rev. Connie Cariker, Rev. Russel Lowe, Rev. Earl Scroggins and Rev. Brent Jarrett. Interment will follow in Tannehill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Harrison Powers, American Legion, Post #79.
Pallbearers will be: Floyd (Toy) Wingo, Vecoe Hensley, Steve Eldridge, Heath Eldridge, Les Standstipher, Dan Reagan and Ed Walker.
The Men of Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church are honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements are entrusted to Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home, McAlester, OK.
