Mary Martin

Mary Martin, 96, of Bixby, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at a nursing center in Bixby.

Graveside services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor David Kelley officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 10, 1912, in Trinidad, Colo., she was the daughter of Luigi and Modesta (Matta) Cha. She came to Pittsburg County as a child with her family and lived in Bache and Krebs. She had lived in the McAlester area since then.

She married Y. W. “Bounce” Martin on Sept. 25, 1933, in McAlester, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1976.

She was a longtime member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and had also belonged to the McAlester Garden Club and the Eastern Star. She had also worked as a nurse’s aid at St. Mary’s Hospital for several years.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tom Evans, of Tulsa; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jerrie Martin, of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Ronna Robins, of Tulsa, and Tonya Davis, of North Carolina.

Also, two great-grandchildren, Lindsay Davis and Brandon Davis, of North Carolina; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Louise Patterson, of McAlester, Betty and John Harr, of California, and Inorinna Poracco, of Italy; one brother, Johnny Cristy, of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Josie DeFrange and Rosie Martin, and a brother, Billy Cristy.
