Jean Maxine Cothran
Jean Maxine Cothran, 89, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Dr. Tom Murray officiating. Private family committal services will be held before the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born March 27, 1919, in Linneus, Mo., she was the daughter of Thomas Henry and Zelma Lodema Davis Jenkins. She graduated from Linneus High School and then moved to Oklahoma City with her parents. She worked at Veasey Drug Store and it was there that she met Duffy A. Cothran, whom she married on Sept. 7, 1938, in Oklahoma City.
They lived in Enid and then moved to California, where he worked at the Naval Base in La Jolla until he was transferred to the Naval Base in McAlester and they lived in Kiowa.
She later moved to McAlester and was a member of the Faith Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lakewood Christian Church. She enjoyed bridge, bowling, fishing, working in the yard, and being with her family.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Anita Cothran, Conway, Ark.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Warren Whitney, Phoenixville, Pa., and Sherry Giaudrone, of McAlester; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a niece, Linda Rainbolt Beech, of Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Hammons, Ronnie Hammons, Duffy N. Cothran, Troy Hammer, James Bates, Matt Bates, Drew Bates, Charles Giaudrone and Brad Whitney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Zelma Jenkins; her husband, Duffy A. Cothran in 1980; a sister, June Rainbolt, and a son-in-law, Tom Giaudrone.
