A.F. ‘Andy’ Maxwell

A. F. “Andy” Maxwell, 92, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pittsburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Ice officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in McAlester under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Pallbearers include grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Randy McFarland, Jeff McFarland, Pat Wallace, Glenn Enloe, Frank Enloe, Jon Davis, Kevin Enloe, Todd Davis, Scott Knox and Clif Loman.

Honorary pallbearers include Duerd Sweetin, Dee Wood, Johnny Wood, Benny Whitworth, Larry Griffin, Paul Shannon and Toolie Ryan.

Born Feb. 10, 1916, in Sardis, to Frank G. and Ethyl (Turner) Maxwell, he grew up and lived in the Sardis, Albion, and Ty Valley area until moving to Pittsburg, where he had lived for the past 62 years. He had worked at the stockyards for awhile, then at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant until retirement, but his real work was as a rancher, and he loved working with horses.

He married Oieta Lois Williams on Aug. 28, 1937, at Talihina. He was a charter member of the Pittsburg Baptist Church and was a deacon of the church. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Talihina and was a member of the Gideons.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jim Hurt, of Edmond, Melba and John Enloe, of Blanco, Sandra and Wayne Chandler, of Haywood.

Also, 10 grandchildren and spouses, Randy and Jeannie McFarland, of Ardmore, Jeff McFarland, of Edmond, Pam and Pat Wallace, of Ardmore, Glenn and Mona Enloe, of Blanco, Frank and Marla Enloe, of Bethel Acres, Shelly and Jon Davis, of Canyon, Texas, Kevin and Dodie Enloe, of Blanco, Melanie and Todd Davis, of Ardmore, Judy and Scott Knox, of Baker City, Ore., Lora and Clif Loman, of Hamilton, Texas.

And, 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Dora Clary of McAlester, and four special caregivers, Flo, Betty, Cindy and Stephanie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon’s International.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oieta Lois Maxwell on Oct. 27, 1991; his parents, Frank and Ethyl Maxwell; two brothers, Carl and R. J. Maxwell, and a sister, Hazel Myers.
