— Billie Jean (Moncrief) Pierce, 89, of Norman, formerly of Canadian, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Charles Saviers officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Pallbearers include Jim Painter, Bob Daniel, Brent Daniel, Robert Miller, Michael Holt, Wade Miller and Mike Daniel.
Honorary pallbearers include Paul John, Roy Bynum, LeRoy Northcutt and Pete Underwood.
The family will greet friends Monday evening at Bishop Funeral Home between 5 and 7.
Born April 20, 1919, in Canadian, to George Washington and Bevie Knapp Moncrief, she grew up and attended schools in Canadian and graduated from Canadian High School. She attended the Hershey Business School and worked at Moncrief’s Feed and Seed. She married Sam Pierce on Aug. 15, 1941, in Tulsa. They lived in Canadian and ran a grocery store where they were involved in raising cattle and later had lake development companies, which were involved in developing Sam’s Point and Bud’s Point.
She moved to Norman four years ago to be near her family. She was a member of the Canadian United Methodist Church, where she was involved with Bible studies and served on the board of trustees. She was honored by the town of Canadian and given the Outstanding Citizen’s Award. Throughout the years, she also served on several committees for the town of Canadian. She was also a member of the Choctaw Nation.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Chancellor Glen D. Johnson, of Oklahoma City, Betty Moore, of Tulsa, Nancy and Mike Holt, of Norman; a son-in-law, Gary Moore, of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Sam Moore, of Tulsa, Emily Moore, of Tulsa, Ann Estes, of Norman.
And, nieces and spouses, Sally and Bill Cunningham, of Stillwater, Ann Sandoval, of Olathe, Kan., Barbara and Bill Erwin, of College Station, Texas, Susan and Roger Bennett, of Pottsboro, Texas, Georgann and Don Wilson, of Tulsa, Virginia and Kenneth Brewer, of Eufaula; nephew and spouse, David and Carol Ainsworth, of Aurora, Colo., and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Pierce on July 9, 1978; three sisters, Alice Buck, Marguerite Garrison, Kiamichi Ainsworth, and one brother, George “Buddy” Moncrief.
