Richard Swartzlander
Richard Swartzlander, 63, of Blanco, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at his home.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Sept. 4, 1944, in Blanco, he was the son of Grover and Gladys Hamilton Swartzlander. He was raised and grew up in the Blanco area and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1964.
He then joined the United States Navy in 1964 and served aboard the USS Oriskany. He was honorably discharged in 1966.
He later had various jobs that took him to many states in the United States. One of his last jobs was a security guard with the United States Army Ammunition Depot of McAlester.
He enjoyed the outdoors and woodworking.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Cristina Swartzlander, of McAlester; a daughter, Sherry Swartzlander, of Skiatook; two grandchildren, Joshua and Melanie Swartzlander, of McAlester.
Also, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe and JoAnn Swartzlander, Reno, Nev., and Robert Swartzlander, of Pittsburg, and a sister, Helen O’Brien, Reno, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Gladys Swartzlander.
