Lena Thomas, 83, of McAlester, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in McAlester.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Christian Church in McAlester with the Rev. Cliff House officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Kaufman, Texas, she was the daughter of Brooks W. and Christine (Hampton) Copeland. She received her bachelor of administration degree from Pepperdine University in 1946. She married Hugh Thomas on Aug. 10, 1946, in Los Angeles. She worked as a real estate agent for First Choice Realty.
She enjoyed painting and volunteered at Shared Blessings. She was a member of Lakewood Christian Church and participated in community Bible study. She was a member of the Twin Communities Home Extension Group.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Paul and wife, Dr. Vicki Thomas, of McAlester; daughters, Mary Ann Thomas-Pittard and husband, Dr. Joe Tom Pittard, San Antonio, and Martha Ruth Smallwood and husband, John Smallwood, Abilene, Texas.
Also, grandchildren, Lané Pittard, John Pittard, Sarah Smallwood, Johanna Smallwood, Elizabeth “Betsy” and Dustan Compton, and Rebecca “Becky” and Michael Auld; great-grandchildren, Cadence Compton and Joah Compton, and sister, Jeannie Knox and husband, Randy, of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Thomas; parents, Brooks and Christine Copeland, and brother, Fred Copeland.
Pallbearers will be Cooper Brown, Les Cashmere, Tony Edwards, Jerry Helfenbein, Kenny Holman and Chris Martin.
