Micheal O’Day Greenway
Micheal O’Day Greenway, 63, of, McAlester, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Pastor Jack Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Blanco Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Robert B. Thomas Post No. 1098 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Masonic services will be provided by Canadian Blue Lodge No. 22. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Nov. 7, 1945, in Hamlin, Texas, he was the son of Oscar Riley and Jesse Christeen Dunn Greenway. He spent his early years in Hamlin before the family moved to Abilene, Texas where he attended high school.
After high school, he joined the United States Navy from June 1967 through May 1969, having served a tour in Vietnam and attaining the rank of petty officer third class.
He married Bessie Faulkner on July 17, 1970, in Weatherford, Texas.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1972, he joined the Oklahoma National Guard where he served in the military police. He then transferred into the U.S. Army Reserve where he trained as a drill sergeant and attained the rank of first sergeant (E-8).
He graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1979 with an associate’s degree of applied science. He worked at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant where he continued to serve his country until his retirement in 2006.
He became employed at the United States Naval Ammunition Depot in October 1972. He held certifications in and worked as a machinist, an equipment mechanic, a rigger in production machinery repair, a tool and dye maker foreman, a welder, and as a toolmaker in the machining and weapons division. He held a great many awards in his military as well as civilian careers. In the United States Navy, he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He was twice recognized for meritorious civilian service to the United States Navy in 2002 and 2006. He also garnered numerous recognition and awards for conduct, service, and performance.
He was a member of the Oklahoma Rifle Association, Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 American Legion, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Inc., Canadian Masonic Lodge No. 22 where he was also the secretary, South McAlester Masonic Lodge No. 96, Savanna Masonic Lodge No. 534, McAlester Masonic Lodge No. 550, a member of the York Rite’s Indian Chapter No. 1 of the Royal Arch Masons, Union Council No. 3 of Cryptic Masons, McAlester Commandery No. 6 of the Knights Templar, all of McAlester, Antek Homa Chapter No. 2 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 32nd Degree member of the McAlester Scottish Rite.
He was also the Oklahoma Grand Lodge’s local Grand Lecturer and obtained his “C” class lecturer’s card.
He enjoyed repairing antique clocks, working in his shop, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie “Boo” Greenway, of the home; a daughter, Kristy Greenway Roe, of Krebs; a son, Michael O’Day Greenway Jr., of McAlester; two grandchildren, Randy Lee Roe, of Krebs, and Sarah Beth Roe, of Krebs; his mother, Jesse Christeen Greenway, Weatherford, Texas.
Also, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Teresa and Mike Wilson, Weatherford, Texas, and Brenda Stites, of Pittsburg; his brother, Mark Greenway, Weatherford, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Greenway; nephews, Micheal O’Day Stites and Paul Brian Daniels; a niece, Katy Greenway, and a brother-in-law, J.T. Stites.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Vanlandingham, Bobby Cox, Mike McFarland, Chester Mason, Dennis Sistrunk and Kenny Copeland.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Pingleton, John Cline, Thomas Stone, Gerald Stokes, Terry Dennis, Clyde Briggs, Guy Faulkner, Joe Faulkner, Bill Faulkner, Gene Wheaton, Albert Wright, and members of Masonic Lodges: Canadian No. 22, South McAlester No. 96, Savanna No. 534, and McAlester No. 550.

Juanita Hedges, 91, of McAlester, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
