Final preparations were underway this week for McAlester’s downtown Christmas Parade, set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7.
“Christmas Carols and Candy Canes” is the theme for this year’s parade. It’s set to begin at corner of Main Street and Carl Albert Parkway. The parade will head east on Carl Albert Parkway and continue east to Fifth Street, where the parade will head south for a block, continue west on Choctaw Avenue and end up back on Main Street.
Food vendors are expected to be set up along Choctaw Avenue for the event, which will once again feature a float competition. Prizes include $300 for first place; $200 for second and $100 for the third place winner
In preparation for the parade, all parked vehicles should be removed by 5 p.m. Thursday from Choctaw Avenue between Main Street and Fifth Street.
A general area for handicapped parking is to be reserved in the alley south of Choctaw Avenue that’s between Third and Fifth Streets.
