McALESTER — For the 26 consecutive year, McAlester has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in recognition of the city’s tree planting and maintenance efforts. Marking the occasion, a ceremonial tree planting took place Tuesday at Chadick Park and McAlester Mayor Steve Harrison signed a proclamation declaring the week of March 17-22 as Arbor Week in McAlester. Sherman Miller, the city’s land maintenance supervisor and his crew planted the oak tree of the “Kindred Spirit” variety in an area near the tennis courts.
